Advances in bioseparations from the biopharmaceutical
knowledge leader - Waters

The annual WCBP conference is a great way to kick off a new year dedicated to biopharmaceutical characterization, and the recent symposium in San Francisco was no exception for Waters.

Glycan analysis
Glycosylation of biotherapeutics is a hot topic as one of the most important critical product attributes for therapeutic safety and efficacy. Just in time to match its scrutiny, Waters announces the availability of the world's first database for glycan analysis by UPLC.

The database will be co-marketed worldwide by Waters and Ireland’s National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT).

Developed by Prof. Pauline Rudd's research team at NIBRT, the new GlycoBase 3+ Database is an online resource that contains normalized retention data, expressed as Glycan Units, for more than 600 2-AB labeled N-linked glycan structures. The values were obtained by systematic analysis of released glycans from a diverse set of glycoproteins using Waters UPLC and HPLC technologies.

Higher Order Structure with HDX/MS
Understanding the impact of conformational changes on safety and efficacy is also an increasingly important part of producing a well-characterized biotherapeutic product, including knowledge of higher order structure. Once an impractical technique, hydrogen deuterium exchange with mass spectrometry (HDX/MS) is now more accessible with new Waters technologies. Our system solution brings maximum coverage to protein analysis, providing robust, rigorous insight in days compared to other techniques that may take months.
