Guest Speakers’ Biographies |
Anil Kane is the Executive Director, Global Formulation Sciences, PDS at Patheon. He received his Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Bombay, India and served as a post doctoral fellow at the School of Pharmacy, University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Anil also has an executive MBA degree from Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario in Canada. Anil has experience in the Pharmaceutical Product Development field for over 25 years, during which time he worked for Ciba Geigy Ltd. and subsequently Novartis. He has extensive knowledge of the entire drug development process, having been involved in taking molecules from early stage development to scale up, technical transfers between various manufacturing sites around the world and drug life cycle management. In his current role as Executive Director, Anil is leading a talented group of scientists at the Canadian sites in the development of novel lead compounds from early phase product development, clinical manufacturing and tech transfers for commercialization. Anil also provides technical support to other PDS sites and to the Global Sales & Marketing team by discussing Patheon capabilities with clients and defining of a scientific development strategy to provide technical solutions and progress their molecules to the next stage of development. |

Diego Monterroza H. M.Sc
Director of Research and Development at PROCAPS S.A. Diego has a degree in Organic Chemistry from Universidad del Atlántico and a masters degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Universidad Nacional. He has more than 10 years of experience developing (formulation and analytical) soft gelatin capsules products, including products for the US, EP and Canadian markets. Diego has lead formulation development for liquids, semisolid, and suspensions, contained in soft gelatin capsules, including lipid formulations and self-emulsifying drug delivery systems. In his current role, Diego leads the product and analytical development of pharmaceutical products for PROCAPS S.A. covering diverse solid and liquid dosage forms, mainly, soft gelatin capsules. |
Donald Barbieri is the Associate Director of Formulation and Process Development at Patheon in Cincinnati, Ohio. Don is a registered pharmacist in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry including the contract manufacturing, branded, generic, and OTC drug industries. Don first began his career in pharmaceutical manufacturing where he worked as a first line supervisor for nearly eight years. He later transitioned into international technical services and then into formulation and process development. Prior to joining Patheon in October 2011, Don was most recently employed as a Manager in New Product Development at McNeil Consumer Healthcare in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. |

John McCarty has held R&D management positions at Key Pharmaceuticals, Schering Plough, and Pharmavene (acquired by Shire Pharmaceuticals) and is the founder of the international consulting firm Pharmaceutical Productions. John is known for his broad expertise in the development of all major dosage forms and is a contributor to industrial publications such as Tablet and Capsules and American Pharmaceutical Review. He is an inventor on numerous US and foreign patents. Until just recently he held the position of VP for Formulation Sciences and Drug Delivery at Azopharma Product Development Group. He earned Bachelor’s degrees in Microbiology and Chemistry from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL.
